Mandela honors Khomeini stand

Just making sure this isn't lost either to history or next time I want to find it.
Star News - July 22, 1992 (Wilmington, North Carolina)

Nicosia, Cyprus - Nelson Mandela placed a wreath at Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's shrine on Tuesday in acknowledgment of Iran's steadfast stand against apartheid, Tehran radio reported.

Iran, which often refers to itself as the defender of the world's oppressed people, has been among the most outspoken Middle Eastern countries in condemning apartheid.

"We are here to thank the Iranian government and nation for their support in black people's struggle against apartheid," the radio quoted Mr. Mandela as saying after arriving in Tehran Tuesday. The report was monitored in Nicosia
This makes me so proud of Khomeini, of the Iranian revolution and of the Iranian people.

Khomeini, after assuming power in Iran was willing to talk with the United States. I've read that Khomeini said Iran is willing to talk to any nation, even the US, except Zionist Israel and Apartheid South Africa. I've looked for the link recently without finding it which means that when I come across a striking piece of information in the future, I have to do a better job of linking to it and quoting it here.

Certainly. Even during the same 24 hours I stumbled again with your page, searching for another thing. But because we rarely take a time to stop and show appreciation I didn't write a comment that second time. So be sure many people are grateful even if they don't have time to express so ;)
